Rex L. Shasteen
(August 23, 1930 - April 10, 2008)
Rex L. Shasteen, 77, of Shelbyville, died at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008 in his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Rex was born on August 23, 1930 in Moultrie County, Illinois, the son of Millard Elmer and Daisy Ann Hawbaker Shasteen. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1948. He was a farmer and in 1968 became a dealer for Phillips 66, delivering fuel to area farmers. Rex then owned and operated Shasteen’s Phillips 66 Service Station in Shelbyville from 1977 to 1999. He was a member of Shelby Christian Church in Shelbyville. Rex enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting. Rex liked all types of animals, especially horses. He married Virginia L. Danneberger on October 14, 1949 in Decatur, Illinois.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; four daughters, Barbara Phegley, Beverly Shasteen, Julee Price and Joni (Dave) White all of Shelbyville; brother, Don (Joanne) Shasteen of Shelbyville; nine grandchildren, Brandi Friedel of Shelbyville, Tassi (Matt) Maton of Chatham, Krista Stauder of Shelbyville, Heather (Matt) Cloe of Lakewood, Ty Hammond of Beecher City, Lori Ruot of Shelbyville, Malea Price of Mt. Zion, Tara White of Swansea and Jef White of Mattoon; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Jack Phegley; and five brothers, Gale, Wayne, Victor, Cecil and Harold Shasteen.
