Pauline E. Himes

Pauline E. (Doll) Himes, 94, of Tower Hill, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008, in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Dollville, IL. Visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday in the church. Burial will be in Knobs Cemetery, near Tower Hill. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Dollville, IL, Pinehaven Children’s Home in Missoula, MT and Hoyleton Children’s Home in Hoyleton, IL.
Pauline was born to Frederick and Anna Barth Doll January 5, 1914, on their farm located 2 ½ miles from Dollville. Dollville was named after Pauline’s grandfather, Jacob Doll. Pauline graduated from Tower Hill High School in the Class of 1931.
Pauline married James Frederick (“Fred”) Himes, a neighboring farmer, on July 17, 1932. They farmed, ran a local feed store in Assumption, and operated a dairy farm while raising their children, James, Elizabeth, and Janis. Pauline’s husband, Frederick, died suddenly in 1969.
Pauline was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ near Dollville. She began playing the piano for church at the age of 13. She played the organ for church services and accompanied the choir for 77 years.
She was an active member of the Women’s Guild, Women’s Club, Home Extension, and the Caring and Sharing Group. She also volunteered at the Pana Heritage manor. She was an avid sports fan and cheered for five generations of family at their sporting events. She was also a true Cardinals and Illinois basketball and football fan.
She is survived by her son, James (Mary) Himes of Tower Hill, daughters, Elizabeth (John) Neumann of Geneseo, IL, and Janis Himes of Champaign; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; longtime friends, Becky Sheridan, Ron, Orlah, Ethan, Karissa, Chris and Tim King, and wonderful caregiver, Wanda Kerby.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers.
