Darrell Gregg, 54, of Shelbyville, died at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Pastor Louis Butler and Pastor Greg Breeden officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Ful-O-Pep 4-H Club or the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Gregg was born on April 16, 1951 in Shelbyville, the son of Virgil and Edith Williams Gregg. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1969, attended SIU in Carbondale and served six years in the Army Reserve. Darrell was a livestock and grain farmer near Clarksburg. He was a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau and Clarksburg United Methodist Church. He was currently serving his 16th year on the board of education for Shelbyville Community Unit School District #4. Darrell was a former leader of the Ful-O-Pep 4-H Club and annually organized the 4-H Antique Tractor Pull in Clarksburg. He successfully spearheaded the drive to get the Clarksburg School House listed as a National Historic Site. He married Cindy France on November 26, 1972.
Surviving are his wife, Cindy; daughter, Rachel Banfield and husband Travis of Shelbyville; parents, Virgil and Edith Gregg of Shelbyville; brother, David Gregg and wife Betty of Shelbyville; sisters, Janet Wines and husband Dale of Shelbyville and Donna Rutledge and husband Mike of Decatur; sister-in-law, Carol Gregg Dawdy and husband Ben of Shelbyville; mother-in-law, Lois France of Shelbyville; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Byron Gregg; and father-in-law, Billy France.
