Kenneth M. Lugar

Kenneth M. Lugar, 81, of Stewardson, passed away at his home at 1:15 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewardson with Rev. Richard Bremer officiating. Visitation from 12:30 -2:00 p.m. Monday in the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery with military rites by Wilbur Broughton American Legion Post #611 of Stewardson. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Carle Hospice or the Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) Foundation.
Mr. Lugar was born on August 11, 1927 in Stewardson, IL, the son of Karl and Sylvia Beals Lugar. Kenneth graduated from Stewardson High School in the Class of 1946. He married Maurine Friese on August 6, 1948. Kenneth was stationed in Germany in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Blaw-Knox, Mattoon in 1992 after 36 years of employment. Kenneth enjoyed motorcycle riding, boating, waterskiing, and bicycling. He also enjoyed riding in parades on the two and three seated bicycles and the “bicycle built for five” that he built. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Wilbur Broughton American Legion Post #61 both of Stewardson.
Surviving are his wife Maurine; children, Christine (Tom) Bailey of Sullivan and Kevin (Tammy) Lugar and David (Lisa) Lugar all of Effingham; grandchildren, Heather Lugar of Charleston, Dustin Lugar and Hillary (Jake) McDevitt all of Effingham, and Alexander and Spencer Bailey both of Sullivan; step-grandchild, Jeremy Bailey of Farmington, MO; great grandchild, Mikayla McDevitt of Effingham; and sister, Ruth Rothrock of Cedar Rapids, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
