Ralph W. Slifer

Ralph William Slifer, 76, of Mode, Illinois, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010 in rural Mode in a farming accident.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kathy Lewis and Rev. C.W. Lewis officiating. Visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Hubbartt Cemetery, near Beecher City, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Mode United Methodist Church, Mode, IL or Camp New Hope, Mattoon, IL.
Mr. Slifer was born on September 24, 1933 in Mode, Illinois, the son of Dick William and Mildred Hazel Smith Slifer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in Germany. Ralph was a grain and livestock farmer. He was a member of the Mode United Methodist Church. He married Bessie Kelly on July 1, 1961.
Surviving are his wife, Bessie; son, Daniel William Slifer of Mode, IL; daughters, Brenda Faye Patrick and husband Greg of Taylorville, IL and Melody Ann Bodine and husband Russ of Forsyth, IL; brothers, Jim Slifer and wife Pat of Beecher City, IL, Kenneth Slifer and wife Helen of Mode, IL, Russell Slifer and wife Nancy of Shelbyville, IL, Richard Slifer of Stewardson, IL, Max Slifer of Decatur, IL, Paul Slifer and wife Mary of Shumway, IL and Wayne Slifer and wife Jane of Mode, IL; sisters, Lila Miller and husband Ralph of Monticello, IL, Sue Matheny and husband Don of Shelbyville, IL, Nancy Mulcahy and husband Jim of St. Peters, MO; and grandchildren, Nick, Elizabeth and Connor Patrick and Kristine and William Bodine.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
