Earl M. Horton

Earl Monroe Horton, 79, of Tower Hill, IL, died at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 in St. John’s Hospice, Springfield, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1201 N. Chestnut, Shelbyville, IL 62565 with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL and one hour before services Thursday in the church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 in Canaan Cemetery in Marshall, Arkansas. Memorial contributions can be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, IL.
Earl was born along Bear Creek in a log cabin on October 22, 1935 in Searcy County, near Marshall, Arkansas. His parents were Oble Monroe and Lillie H. McCasland Horton. He married Betty Beggs on November 10, 1958. Earl was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Shelbyville, IL. In addition to farming activities, he worked for Decatur Macon County Hospital, Dr. Frank Snell, and International Bondware in Shelbyville, IL. He also raised and trained Hackney Ponies for the show ring for many years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Horton; children, Diane (James) Hopper of Union, OH, Steven Horton of Chicago, IL, and Wayne Horton of Tower Hill, IL; grandchildren, Ryan Hopper of Union, OH and Sarah (Brad) West of Westerville, OH; great grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas West both of Westerville, OH; step-granddaughter, Diane (Brian) Bunton of Lakewood, IL; four step-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marge Rickey and Beverly Ewing; and a multitude of greatly loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents; step-mother, Meta Horton; and two brothers, Haskell and Gary Horton.
