Larry R. Smith

Larry Richard Smith, 51, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:09 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015 in his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Greg Breeden officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Howe Cemetery, near Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Education Fund for the Children of Larry R. Smith.
Larry was born on March 21, 1963 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Richard Allen and Carolyn Ava Clawson Smith. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1981. Larry was a pipefitter and supervisor for Kelly Construction in Decatur for 26 years. He then worked for Fox and Austin Masonry in Shelbyville, IL. Larry was a member of Moose Lodge #1294 and Old River ABATE both in Shelbyville. He enjoyed boating on the river, mushroom hunting and gardening. He had the “best garden in town”. Larry was a coach in the Shelbyville JFL and Little League Baseball programs and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and the late Dale Earnhardt. He also loved watching the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and the University of Illinois football and basketball.
He is survived by his children, Ricci Leigh Smith, Brandy Schae Smith, and Jordan William Smith all of Shelbyville, IL; step-children, Zachary Jesse Helton of Shelbyville, IL and Aurora Arielle Poulos and husband Andrew of Eau Claire, WI; mother, Carolyn Smith of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Scott Allen Smith and wife Connie of Shelbyville, IL; step-grandchildren, Jesse Lee Helton and Cailynn Elam both of Shelbyville, IL; aunts, Doris Barker and husband Gayle and Doris Clawson all of Shelbyville, IL; love of his life and companion for 24 years, Denise A. Smith of Shelbyville, IL; best friends, Doug Williams of Shelbyville, IL and Kent Allen of Hudson Bay, FL; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard A. Smith; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Mabel Smith; maternal grandparents Glen and Janice Clawson; uncles, Mitchell and Walter Smith and Gerald Clawson; and aunt, Marilyn Duncan.
