Dean Utsler

Orville “Dean” Utsler, 67, of Shelbyville, died at 6:08 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 in Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Tom Hunter officiating. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Hospital for Children.

Dean was born on May 5, 1942 in Macon County, Illinois, the son of Delbert and Celbra Piercy Utsler. He graduated from Bethany High School in the Class of 1960 and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Dean was a pipe fitter for A.E. Staley in Decatur for 29 years. He married Louise Holley on July 8, 1983. They owned and operated Double D Tack in Shelbyville for many years. He was a member of American Quarter Horse Association and the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his wife, Louise; son, Orville Dean Utsler, Jr. and wife Amy of Mattoon; daughter, Regina Nelson and husband Tim of St. Louis, MO; brothers, Melvin Utsler and wife Marie of Bethany, Jerry Utsler and wife Paula of Franklin, and Dale Utsler of Decatur; sister, Linda Hunter and husband Tom of Covington, IN; and four grandchildren, Orville Dean “Trey” Utsler III and Jackson Utsler both of Mattoon and Ian Nelson and Mackenzie Nelson both of St. Louis, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
