Betty Jean Ditzler, 98, of Henton, IL, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Pana Health and Rehab Center, Pana, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2025, at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Linda Trent officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home. Casual attire is requested. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Shelbyville or the Allenville Christian Church.
Betty was born on July 30, 1926, south of Henton, IL, the daughter of John Michael and Ruby Jane (Huestis) Hazen. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1944. Betty married Clark Eugene Ditzler on April 10, 1944, by eloping to St. Charles, MO, and together they had three children, Donna, Diana and Dennis. Betty was a homemaker and worked as a caregiver for Charlie and Rose Weber in Dollville. She was later employed by the Sullivan Shoe Factory and co-owned and operated the Mobil Gas Station in Shelbyville with her husband and children from 1971-1977. She was a member of the Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. Betty loved music and had a Country and Western Show with June West, “The Twilighters”, at the Senior Center in Shelbyville.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Donna (Larry) Bragg and Diana Hammond both of Shelbyville; son, Dennis (Candi) Ditzler of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren, Shaine (Tonya) Wright, Robin Hammond, Chad Hammond, Tonya Reynolds, Shonnie (Dominic) Ruholl, Clark Wright, Wyatt (Shawn Allen) Ditzler, and Megan Ditzler; nine great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; John and Ruby Hazen; husband, Clark Ditzler on January 9, 1992; son-in law, Don Hammond; two sisters, Ruby “Evelyn” Schroeder and Emma “Eileen” Lockwood; and three brothers, Glen Roland Hazen, Carl John Hazen and Cecil Michael Hazen; and two great great grandchildren.
