Catherine Elizabeth “Cathy” Welton (Kidd) born February 14, 1972, to Roy and Carol Kidd of Westervelt. Cathy was a 1990 graduate of Shelbyville High School and in that same year married her high school sweetheart, C. Dewayne Welton, in September of 1990. Cathy worked for Shelby Memorial Hospital and Shelby Area Ambulance service where she earned her EMT Intermediate while helping the owners manage the day-to-day office tasks.
In 1997, she found her true love and calling, being a mother. Devin Welton was born in May of 1997, followed by Caitlyn Welton in November of 2000. In March of 2024, Devin and Monica gave her a grandson named Isaiah. Then in 2025, Devin and Monica brought Noah into the world and grandma would tell you that Noah has the bluest eyes in all the world. Parenting was her gift, a calling of God to be a servant and meet the needs of others.
She did this selfishly and often. Cathy was a lifelong friend of Jesus, she believed, she trusted, she loved him with all her heart. As a member of Belvidere First Assembly of God, she shared with everyone she encountered, and she did so with a smile.
Cathy struggled with an unknown autoimmune disorder that attacked her body in 2020, but she never let the immense pain, or the robbing of her hearing stop her from sharing the Love of Christ.
Cathy is survived by her husband C. Dewayne Welton; son, Devin, his wife Monica and kids Isaiah (2) and Noah(7m); daughter, Caitlyn Welton and two fur babies Hanz and Harper all of Belvidere Illinois. Parents, Roy and Carol Kidd; as well as sisters Tina Kidd, and Anna Reed (Travis); and brother, Richard Kidd (Miranda) all survive and reside in Shelby County.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2026, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Pastor David Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Brunswick Cemetery, Westervelt, IL. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her name to the Belvidere First Assembly of God food pantry where she found home and a second family. (https://www.facebook.com/b1foodpantry)
