David “Dave” Lyle Moffett, 83, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 12:10 pm in his residence, located in Windsor, IL, with family by his side.

Dave was born on February 18, 1943, on the family farm in Windsor, IL, the son of John Hubert and Luella L. ‘Jones’ Moffett. When Dave was born, he weighed 10 pounds and 11 ounces and was the youngest of ten brothers and sisters. As a child, Dave went 13 straight years of never missing Sunday school. After graduating high school, he started working at Borden Chemical, in 1961, and worked there for 45 years and 27 days, retiring in 2007. In his retirement, he worked for EPL BioAnalytical Services in Niantic, IL. A fun fact about Dave is he raced motorcycles for a few years as a young adult.

Dave graduated from Windsor High School in 1961. And soon after, married Jaqueline Ann ‘Gebhart’ Moffett on September 1, 1963, in Mattoon, IL.

Dave was an avid family man. He never missed a game or event for any of his children or grandchildren. Dave was always cheering on his family, no matter the sport or season, enjoying a bag of concession stand popcorn. Dave was also an avid church goer from the time he was a child. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Strasburg, IL, before passing.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don Moffett, Wayne Moffett, Dwight Moffett, and Thomas Moffett; as well as his sisters, Illeana Yeager, Barbara Wiley, Luella Moffett, and Julia Shasteen.

Dave is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; brother, John Moffett (wife Diana Moffett): two daughters, Michelle ‘Moffett’ Smith (husband Craig Smith) and Dena ‘Moffett’ Cearlock (husband Tracy ‘Biz’ Cearlock); his five grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Brenna Smith (husband Dalton McGee), Connor Haaksmith (wife Hannah Haaksmith), Austin Cearlock, and Jensen Cearlock (Nathan Callaway); as well as his only great grandchild, Harper Haaksmith.

Dave’s services will be at the Grace Lutheran Church, 109 Locust Street, Strasburg, IL, 62465, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, starting with a visitation at 10:00 am, a funeral service at 11:00 am and a lunch to follow at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be at a later date in Boiling Springs Township, Decatur, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church or the Windsor High School FFA, 1424 Minnesota Avenue, Windsor, IL, 61957.

The family would like to thank Pastor Kene Whybrew and Transitions Hospice, especially Jill, Jamie and Cheryl, for the loving care they gave to Dave.
