Dixie L. Furr

Dixie Lynn Furr, 88, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Pastor John Curtis officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Cornerstone Community Fellowship in Shelbyville.

Dixie was born on December 26, 1937, in Morrisonville, IL, the daughter of Fay Lewis and Eliza “Eleanor” (Pearson) Atteberry. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1955. She married Charles “Wayne” Furr on December 15, 1957, and they were blessed with two children, Tom and Patti. Dixie worked as the head bookkeeper at Hygrade cheese factory and later as soil sample clerk at KSI both in Shelbyville. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Center Thrift Store and researching genealogy. Dixie found joy in reading, working puzzles and caring for her cats. She was a member of Cornerstone Community Fellowship in Shelbyville and the Shelby County Historical and Genealogical Society.

Dixie survived by her husband, Wayne; son, Tom Furr and wife Dianna of Shelbyville, IL; son-in-law, Douglas Kitchen of Arthur, IL; brothers, John Atteberry (Sue) of Decatur, IL and James Atteberry (Dianne) of Shelbyville, IL; four grandchildren, Matthew Kitchen (Sarah) of Sullivan, IL, Isaac Kitchen (Drew) of Arthur, IL, Sydni Furr of Owensboro, KY; and Maggie Furr-Mowery (Charlie) of Warrenville, IL; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patti Lynn Kitchen on April 13, 2007; sister, June Goebel; and brother, Neal Atteberry.
