Donald D. Himes

Donald Duwane Himes, 93, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 2:49 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2026, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026, at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Linda Trent officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, in the funeral home. Burial with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Shelbyville or the Shelby County Honor Guard.

Donald was born on July 13, 1932, in rural Westervelt, IL, the son of Joe and Polly (Wright) Himes. He graduated from Findlay High School in the Class of 1950. He then served in the United States Army. Donald married Merle F. Phegley on November 11, 1962. Donald farmed with his father and worked as a carpenter for Robert Lively Construction in Shelbyville. He later worked in the maintenance department at Shelby Memorial Hospital. Donald was a member of the Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. He enjoyed gardening and watching sports on TV.

Donald is survived by his wife, Merle; sons, Brent L. Himes and Stacy J. Himes, both of Shelbyville, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Irvin Himes (Edith), and Kenneth Himes (Norma).
