Elizabeth A. "Betty" Lavelle

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Lavelle, 69, of Bloomington, IL, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 8:00 am, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be from Noon – 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL.

Betty was born on October 17, 1956, in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of George Lewis and Jeannette “Jean” (Short) Burrell. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1974 and continued her education, earning an associate’s degree in floral arts from Danville Community College and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of South Alabama. She worked as a nurse in critical care at USA Knollwood Hospital in Mobile, AL and Palmetto Health Alliance Hospital in Columbia, SC. Most recently, she was an RN at OSF St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bloomington, IL for nearly 20 years. She enjoyed hiking, floral arts, and traveling and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville, IL.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathryn “Katie” Haas (Lan) of Fort Thomas, KY; son, William Brice Lavelle of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Emma and Ben Haas of Fort Thomas, KY; sister, Lila Douglas (Brent) of Bloomington, IL; brothers, Stephen “Steve” Burrell (Dixie) of Lehigh Acres, FL, and John Burrell (Marcia) of Tucson, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
