Elmer “Leon” Lowe, 96, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 6:25 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, in Shelbyville Manor.
Private graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with flag presentation by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
Leon was born on May 13, 1929, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Elmer Dewey and Rena Lilly (Hagan) Lowe. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1948 and then served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Leon married Mary Anne Feddersen on October 4, 1952, and they were blessed with four children, Anne, Charles, Mary and Matthew. He worked as a machinist for Caterpillar in Decatur, IL until his retirement in 1985. Leon enjoyed fishing, tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, and attending Shelbyville High School sporting events. Leon had a daily fitness routine which he continued until the age of 85. He was truly grateful for the experience of participating in the Honor Flight with his good friend Stan Spesard. Leon was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville.
He is survived by his children, Anne Shull and husband Dick of Edwardsville, IL, Mary Lowe of Jackson, TN and Matthew Lowe of Shelbyville, IL; two granddaughters, Heather Hood and husband Rick of West Field, IN and Amanda Shull of Moro, IL; and two great granddaughters, Mary Ellen Buecker and Isabelle Hood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Anne Lowe on July 5, 2010; son, Charles Lowe of January 12, 2016; and brother, John Wesley “Dub” Lowe.
