Gary E. Storm

Gary Ervin Storm, 83, of rural Lakewood, IL, passed away at 3:25 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. James Bringman officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.- Noon on Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Gary was born on November 2, 1942, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Ervin Leroy and Hazel Dean (Austin) Storm. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1960 and attended the University of Illinois to play football. Gary then served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963, where he was an MP serving in France and Germany. He married Kathie M. Willms on December 16, 1967, and they were blessed with three children, Brad, Debra and Stephanie. He was proud of his children and all their accomplishments. Gary was a lifelong grain farmer and served on the board of directors for the Shelby County Soil and Water Conservation District. Gary loved history and his family felt he would have been a great teacher. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an exercise enthusiast. He especially liked taking long bicycle rides in the country, hiking in the National Parks, and volunteering at the National Parks to repair and maintain the hiking trails. Most of all, Gary enjoyed having his grandchildren come to the family farm for visits.

He is survived by his wife, Kathie Storm; children, Brad Storm (Kim) of Lakewood, IL, Debra Young (Christopher) of Downers Grove, IL and Stephanie Beard (Todd) of Rantoul, IL: sisters-in-law, Bobbie Stellar of Kansas City, MO and Jana Miller of Menifee, CA; grandchildren, Mitchell Stossmeister, Austin Lareau, Emmalee Helton, Ella Storm, Vincent Beard and Ocean Beard; great grandchildren, Brooklyn Yoder and Wyatt Stossmeister; and great great grandson, Waylon Chamberlain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Hazel Storm; brother, Neil Storm; and sister, Cheryl McClellan.
