George Thomas “Tom” Walker, 77, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 8:25 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2025, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the FFA Chapter at Shelbyville High School.
Tom was born on November 21, 1947, in Springfield, IL, the son of Leslie LaRue and Mary Elizabeth (Matthew) Walker. The Walker family moved to Shelbyville in 1964, and Tom graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1966. He attended Wabash Valley Community College in Mt. Carmel, IL, and then served in the Army National Guard of Illinois from 1968-1974. Tom was a lifelong farmer in the Shelbyville area. Tom was an avid collector of farm toys and model railroad trains. He was a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau and Coles County Central Model Railroad Club. Tom enjoyed going for drives to check on both the crops and the local car lots.
He is survived by his son, Douglas Walker (Megan) of Altamont, IL; daughter, Denise “Dee” Lasker (Michael) of Santa Rosa, CA; brother-in-law, Bob Alexander of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Gabe, Olivia, Emily and Isaac; step-grandchildren, Codie and Karlie; one niece, Andi; and one nephew, John.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Walker; sister, Janice Alexander; and grandson, Tyler.
