George “Dean” Warfel, 85, of Findlay, IL, passed away at 3:00 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2026, in his residence.
In keeping with Dean’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately. Burial will be in Plato Center Cemetery, Plato Center, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Findlay United Methodist Church and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
Dean was born on July 15, 1940, in Newton, IL (Jasper County), the son of Leonard Edward and Pearl M. (Reed) Warfel. He worked as an Engineering Operator for 35 years at the Elgin Mental Health Center Power Plant, in Elgin, IL. He was a member of the Findlay United Methodist Church. Dean enjoyed boating and jet skiing on Lake Shelbyville, mowing, and riding his motorcycle. He loved helping others and will be remembered for his generosity. Dean married Doris “Ilene” (Wicker) Cutler on May 15, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene Warfel of Findlay, IL: son, David Keith Warfel of Rockford, IL; daughter, Suzanne Mellinger of Findlay, IL: four grandchildren, Tiffany Mellinger, Jacob Mellinger, Daniel Warfel and Kyle Warfel; and two great grandchildren, Mathew and Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
