Jeannie A. Mahnke, 82, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024, in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Ron Newman officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden, IL. Memorials may be given to Cowden Free Methodist Camp or Tower Hill Free Methodist Church.
Jeannie was born on April 23, 1942, in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of Burnell and Vera (VanTassel) Johnson. She graduated from Cassadaga Valley High School in Sinclairville, NY and attended Roberts Wesleyan College in North Chili, NY. Jeannie was a retired rural mail carrier for the Shelbyville Post Office. Previously, she worked as a teacher’s aide and crossing guard at Main Street School in Shelbyville. Jeannie loved music and was a gifted singer. She enjoyed reading her bible and spending time with her grandchildren. Jeannie was a member of the Tower Hill Free Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Robyn Quick (Patrick Reid) and Kris Mahnke both of Shelbyville, IL: grandchildren, Colton Mahnke (Cassie) and Chase Quick (Ariel); great grandchildren, Addilyn Mahnke, Aurora, Calliope, and Aubrey Quick and Rowan Smith; brothers, Charles Johnson of Hilton, NY and Kevin Johnson (Scott) of Palm Harbor, FL; brother-in-law, Jack Eaton of Marietta, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Wesley Dale Mahnke in 1973; sister, Marilee Eaton; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Ethel Mahnke.
