Jesse R. Janes

Jesse Ray Janes, 72, of Lakewood, IL, passed away at 8:28 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

Jesse was born on August 11, 1953, in Phoenix, AZ, the son of Henry Ray and Margaret Louise (Baker) Janes. Jesse served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He married Ethel (McDonald) Owens on February 25, 2023. Jesse was a retired electrician and a skilled carpenter and mechanic. If he didn’t know how to fix it, he would figure out how. Jesse loved to ride his motorcycle and was a former member of the Sober Riders in Phoenix, AZ.

Jesse is survived by his wife, Ethel; daughters, Kimberly Janes of Phoenix, AZ, Dixie Janes of Las Vegas, NV, Callie Janes of Clarkdale, AZ, and Jessie Janes of Surprise, AZ; sons, Michael Ray Janes (Maribel) of Phoenix, AZ, and Clinton Ray Janes of Phoenix, AZ; 24 grandchildren; four great grandchildren with one more on the way; and three sisters, Dixie Riley, Dorothy Janes, and Betty Louise McCauley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Henry Ray Janes.

Funeral services and burial will be at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary and Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ. Local arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the family for expenses.
