Madelon Margaret Fisher, 98, of Shelbyville, IL, was promoted to glory at 2:57 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2025.
A celebration of Madelon’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025, in the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville with Rev. Tim Yankee officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church. Casual attire is requested. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo, IL. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, IL, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
Madelon was born on February 6, 1927, in Carter Nine, OK, the daughter of George Gerald and Mildred Marie (Baker) Hart. Madelon and her family lived in Carter Nine, OK, until moving to Williams Camp in Fayette County, IL, in 1939. She graduated from Brownstown High School in the Class of 1944. Madelon married Roy Brock Fisher on June 22, 1945, in Brownstown, IL, and moved to Washington, D.C. while Brock was serving in the U.S. Navy. After coming home from the Navy, they lived in Crossville, IL, before moving back to Williams Camp when Brock went to work for Carter Oil Co. Madelon worked as a bookkeeper at R.H. Troop Oil Co., Bob Hoss Oil Co., Humble Pipeline, and Stuckey’s Carriage Inn. In 1964, they moved just outside of Brownstown and lived there until 2006, when they moved to Shelbyville and became Cork and Angela’s next-door neighbors. Madelon and Brock enjoyed spending time with the Exxon Annuitant’s Club and taking trips to Branson, MO, where they enjoyed the country music. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in St. Elmo from 1960 – 2006 before becoming a member at the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, IL. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Madelon loved her family dearly, especially her five grandkids. She never knew a stranger and loved telling different stories about her life to her friends. She was loved by many with her sweet spirit.
Madelon is survived by her children, Claude Fisher and wife Rita of Velma, OK, and Angela Hagan and husband Cork of Shelbyville, IL; five grandchildren, Danny Fisher (Mindy), Philip Fisher, Nikki Stauffer (Bryan), Carla Miller (Mark), and Christine Preston (Chris); 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and special friends, Phil and Barb Luze.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Brock on March 31, 2018; son, Scott L. Fisher; sister, Sylvia Hart; and brothers, Phillip Hart and Lawrence “Sonny” Hart.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Shelbyville Manor, Sarah Massey, and all those who came to visit her when she was no longer able to get out.
