Michael T. Shride

Michael Terry Shride, 75, of Lakewood, IL, passed away at 4:44 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2026, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2026, at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Casual attire is requested. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Breakthrough T1D.

Michael was born on April 1, 1951, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Donald Sherman and Barbara Louise (Mose) Shride. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1969. Mike worked as a tire builder at Firestone in Decatur, IL, until its closure, and then began working as a carpenter. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed trap shooting and hunting. Mike was a member of the Pana Sportsman’s Club and the Moose Lodge 1294 in Shelbyville. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and cherished spending time with his grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his sweetheart, Gail Buckles; daughters, Michele Hippard of Shelbyville, IL, Brandie Buckles of Lakewood, IL and Tabatha Buckles of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Alan Shride (Debby) of Bethany, IL; sisters, Cheryl Reider (David) of Wabash, IN, and Susan Wildman (Allen) of Findlay, IL; and five grandchildren, Bailee Buckles, Aidan Shride, McKinley Hippard, McKennna Hippard, and Lillian Buckles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael D. “Mikie” Shride; sister, Donella Mitchell; and brother, Donald S. Shride, Jr. in infancy.
