Nelson E. Wiley

Nelson Edward Wiley, 88, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Shelbyville Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Tim Yankee officiating. Visitation will be from noon – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be held at Rosamond Grove Cemetery, Rosamond, IL. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville.

Nelson was born in Montgomery County, IL, on August 20, 1937, to Elmer and Viola (Haines) Wiley. In 1957, he graduated from Blue Mound High School. He served in the Army in Germany from 1960 – 1962. He worked 32 years at Firestone in Decatur, IL, retiring in 1995. On December 21, 1985, he married Rebecca (Murrie) Walbright. Nelson was a member of SPBGMA, Cushman Club and Model Train Club.

Nelson leaves behind his wife, Rebecca; two stepsons, David Walbright and Mark Walbright (Linda); six step-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Maurice “Bud” Wiley; and five sisters, Vashti Barnes (Harry), Fleta Trader (Clyde) Selma Reeves (Perry), Beverly Gideon (Donald) and Beverly’s first husband, Elvis Carter; and Donna J. Wiley.
