Roberta Rose Menis, 81, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in her residence with her son by her side.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shelbyville, IL, with Father Pawel Augustyniak as celebrant. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
Roberta was born on April 28, 1944, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Russell and Bertha (Simon) Stoller. She married Dr. Valentino Menis in August of 1965. Valentino was drafted into the United States Army in 1967, and Roberta joined him in Vietnam where she taught mathematics and English to Vietnamese children. After returning to the States, Roberta attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the School of Naguib, earning a master’s degree in art. Roberta was a talented artist, specializing in elaborate paintings and sculptures. She was also a talented pianist, photographer, and published author of The Spider Orchid. Roberta was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville, IL.
Roberta is survived by her son, Matthew J. Menis of Mode, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Dr. Valentino Menis on October 16, 2023.
