Sandra K. Kessel

Sandra Kay Kessel, 74, of Lakewood, IL, passed away at 9:54 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024, in her residence, surrounded by her family. 

Private family services will be held with burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County Senior Center or Shelbyville Area Community Foundation for the Memorial Sunken Garden and mailed to Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565. 

Sandra was born on March 10, 1950, in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Daniel Linden and Jean (Phelps) Winings. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1968. Sandra married Fred Kenneth Kessel on December 28, 1967, and they were married for over 55 years. Sandra was a secretary for PC Limited, near Findlay, IL. She enjoyed going to the beach, shopping at thrift stores, cooking, gardening, reading books, adding to her shoe collection, and working crossword puzzles. 

Sandra is survived by her husband, Fred; daughters, Deanna Collier and husband Joe and Debra Snyder and husband Kendall both of Lakewood, IL; son, Mathew Kessel and wife Stephanie of Decatur, IL; brother, Joe Winings of Lakewood, IL; sisters, Sally Boehm (Larry) of Westervelt, IL, Pennie Evans (Steve) of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Dixie Gray (Dale) of Lovington, IL; grandchildren, Zeb Collier (Elaine) of Vandalia, IL, Gabby Niebrugge (Kyle) of Effingham, IL, Nik Snyder (Rachel) of Colorado Springs, CO, Autum Snyder of Rapid City, SD, Breanna Kessel of Mt. Zion, IL, and Brody Kessel of Decatur, IL; step-grandchildren, Zoey Thixton of Springfield, IL, and Zane Thixton of Sherman, IL; great grandchildren, Winifred and Wesley Collier, Theodore and Benjamin Niebrugge, and Beckham Gerhardt; step-great granddaughter, Aurora McDonough; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Burl and Marjorie Kessel; sister, Vickie Freeman Wicks; nephew, Jacob Edwards; and niece Molly Reynolds in infancy.
