William "Bill" R. Read

William “Bill” Russell Read, 71, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 10:05 p.m. Friday September 25, 2026, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, in Glenwood Cemetery, Lookout Addition, Shelbyville, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Bill was born on November 27, 1954, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Charles William and Betty Jean (Woolen) Read. He grew up in Shelbyville and enjoyed roller skating and bowling in his younger years. Bill graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1972. He worked at the Community Action Center in Shelbyville for many years. Bill was a quiet guy and enjoyed listening to the Beatles.

Bill is survived by his siblings, Wilma Vote of Decatur, IL, Phyllis Scroggins of Tucson, AZ, Linda Cole and husband Randy of Wood River, IL, Joyce Read of Stewardson, IL, Larry Read of Conroe, TX, and Becky Harrell and husband Wade of Amarillo, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Rachel Sloan; and great-nephew, Thomas Lee Christen.
