Roger Merritt Wicker, 67, of Shelbyville, died at 6:25 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Lee Lovett officiating.. Visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Prairie Heart Institute of St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

Roger was born on September 12, 1942 near Tower Hill, Illinois, the son of Walter and Doris Jeffers Wicker. He was a graduate of Tower Hill High School in the Class of 1960. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Roger worked construction, was a shift supervisor at International Paper in Shelbyville and owned and operated a trucking company. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post #4829 and was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church both in Shelbyville. He married Janie M. Cresswell on October 30, 1971.

Surviving are his wife, Janie; son, Kevin Wicker (Carrie) of Sullivan, IL; daughters, Karen Wicker of Decatur, IL and Teresa of Aurora, IL; sisters, Virginia Sokolis of Wheeling, IL, Mary Handley (Ralph) of Decatur, Nancy Johnson of Hastings, NE and Ilene Warfel (Dean) of Findlay, IL; and one grandson, Derek Wicker of Sherman, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Retha Wicker; two brothers, Lyle and Fred Wicker; and two sisters, Sue Morgan and Margaret Chase.
