Lloyd W. Halbrook, Sr. 

(September 12, 1939 – September 18, 2023)

Lloyd W. Halbrook, Sr., 84, of Reno, Nevada, passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2023 at the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home.   He was draped in the United States flag and received a Walk of Honor attended by dozens of fellow veterans, family members, and friends.

Lloyd Sr. was born on September 12, 1939 in rural Shelbyville, Illinois. After attending Shelbyville High School, Class of 1957, he served 20 years in the United States Air Force where he trained pilots for high altitude flights and created a patented restraint device used by NASA. 

In 1968, while stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Lloyd married Masako Murayama and they shared two children.  Lloyd retired from the military in 1977 and retired to Xenia, Illinois to fulfill his dream of farming near his childhood home. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and country dancing.

He is survived by his daughter, Sanae Dixon of Reno, Nevada; son, Lloyd Halbrook Jr. of West Sacramento, California; and adult grandchildren, Emily and Naomi.  He is also survived by his siblings, Earl, Harold, Norma, Judy, and Tom; and foster sister, Jeanne.

Lloyd Sr. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Masako; mother, Viola Fern Bray; foster parents, Bernie and Ione Wheeler; and brother, Richard.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10:00am at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Interment with military honors will take place at Brunswick Cemetery near Westervelt, IL. Afterwards, a luncheon will be served at VFW Post 4829, 513 S Cedar St, Shelbyville,IL In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to any Veteran organization.
