Nita A Vogel
(October 29, 1913 – May 18, 2006)

Nita Alma Vogel, 92, of Strasburg, died at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2006 in Strasburg.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg with Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg. Arrangements by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Strasburg. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Choir, St. Paul’s Ladies Aid or donor’s choice.

Miss Vogel was born on October 29, 1913 in Prairie Twp., Shelby County, Illinois, the daughter of Albert Herman and Emma Maria Phillipina Ruff Vogel. She graduated from Strasburg High School and Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. She worked for the Strasburg Herald and during WW II did clerical work in Chicago. She then became an elementary school teacher, teaching in Belleville, St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Strasburg and other rural area schools. She later worked for the Strasburg State Bank until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, Ladies Aid of the church, 80 year member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Choir serving as their only treasurer, and former member and president of the Strasburg Senior Citizens.

Surviving are her five nephews, Dale Vogel and wife Virginia of Neoga, Donald Vogel and wife Betty of Strasburg, Delbert Stremming and wife Doris of Strasburg, James Stremming and wife Louise of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Lawrence Stremming and wife Shirley of Strasburg; seven nieces, Helen Buesking and husband Harold of Mattoon, Retha Schwartz of Mattoon, Juanita Weber of Strasburg, Lela Ostermeier and husband Dwight of Strasburg, Dorothy Juhnke and husband Paul of Strasburg, Emily Marsland and husband Dean of Windsor, and Evelyn Aird of Oswego; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Martin Frederick Vogel; and four sisters, Esther Mahnke, Amelia Doeding, Clara Gepford and Bertha Stremming.
