Richard J. Fischbach 

(August 7, 1931 – May 3, 2024)

Richard James Fischbach, formerly of Shelbyville, died in Vero Beach, Florida on May 3, 2024, at the age of 92.

He was born in Pasadena, California on August 7, 1931. After receiving an Associate of Arts degree at Pasadena City College, he joined the United States Navy in 1950 and served honorably during the Korean War. For the remainder of his life, he spoke fondly of the ship on which he served, the heavy cruiser U.S.S. Los Angeles, which was hit by enemy fire during that war but fortunately he was not injured. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1954 with the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. He worked for and retired from Southern California Edison power company as a lineman before moving to Shelbyville to live with his wife, Charla Bartscht Fischbach. A great automobile enthusiast, Richard harbored a particular love for Model A Fords, and was a lifetime member of the Model A Ford Club for over sixty years.

Richard was predeceased by his wife Charla, who passed away in 2022. He is survived by his sister, Marie Hughes, as well as his son, Michael Fischbach, and his daughter, Karen Bragado. He also is survived by five grandchildren: Tara Fischbach, Alexander Bragado, Andrew Bragado, Grace Fischbach, and Sophia Fischbach, as well as by three great-grandchildren, Adam Mryhij, Kayan Mryhij, and Rylee Bragado.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. A private service with military honors will be held for him at a later date. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County Honor Guard and mailed to Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
